Title I School Parent Committee Survey Due March 18th

  • Principals have received a link to a Title I School Parent Committee Survey from the DOE.
    • In accordance with Section 1118 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)…all schools with Title I, Part A programs are required to have a Title I Parent Committee that serves as the consultative and representative body for Title I parents. This committee helps ensure meaningful, two-way communication between your school and parents regarding student academic learning and other school activities. As noted during the “Title I 101” sessions, for the 2015–16 school year, Title I parents may choose to form either a Title I Parent Advisory Council (PAC) or a Title I Parent Subcommittee within your school’s existing Parent Association (PA) or Parent Teacher Association (PTA).
  • The short survey must be submitted by each Title I school by Friday, March 18, so Title 1 Representatives may want to check with principals in the next couple of days to be sure it has been completed.
  • Email osfep@schools.nyc.gov for more information.
  • Check out these Title I Resources.

“Beyond Measure” Film Screening

  • The documentary Beyond Measure will be screened at the Earth School on March 19th. The film documents how “schools that are breaking away from an outmoded, test-driven education are shaping a new vision for our classrooms. These are schools that see critical thinking, communication, exploration, experimentation, collaboration, and creativity as the key to good education. And they are dramatically improving outcomes for children of all backgrounds. They are schools where practically every student graduates and goes on to finish college.”
  • An interactive discussion will follow the screening. Childcare and refreshments will be provided. Students are welcome to watch the film.
    • Sat. March 19, 2:00 – 5:00 pm
    • Earth School Auditorium, 600 East 6th St., NY, NY 10009 (Between Ave. B & C)
